Old Hopovo Monastery

Staro Hopovo Monastery, situated on the picturesque slopes of Fruška Gora in Serbia, is not only a significant spiritual center but also renowned for producing traditional rakija. Founded between 1496 and 1502 by Despot Đorđe Branković, the monastery boasts a rich history and carefully preserves ancient distillation recipes and techniques.

The monks dedicate themselves to crafting rakija using high-quality fruits from the surrounding orchards. The production process adheres to traditional methods: meticulous selection and fermentation of fruits, followed by distillation in copper stills. Aging in oak barrels imparts a unique aroma and golden hue to the rakija.

The range includes:

  • Plum Rakija (Šljivovica): Made from local plum varieties, known for its rich and full flavor.
  • Apricot Rakija (Kajsijevača): An aromatic brandy with the sweet scent of ripe apricots.
  • Quince Rakija (Dunjevača): A delicate brandy with the characteristic taste of quinces.

Rakija from Staro Hopovo Monastery is not just a beverage but an expression of the spiritual heritage and artisanal mastery of the monks. Each bottle tells a story of dedication, tradition, and the deep faith that resides within the monastery's walls.
